Modern Kitchens
A kitchen is not just a separate room, or other space set aside for meal preparation and cooking, a kitchen is a hub of family life and often used for dining and entertaining.
When cooking first moved indoors, it was performed, with other domestic chores, in a common room, where the fire burned on the hearth, or—even earlier, before chimneys were known—on the floor in the centre of the room.
Back in the middle ages, many of the finest kitchens were in monasteries, usually in separate buildings that were equipped on a large scale for cooking, brewing, and baking.
Today’s modern residential kitchen is typically equipped with a stove, a sink with hot and cold running water, a refrigerator and kitchen cabinets arranged according to a modular design, many have a microwave oven, dishwasher and other electric appliances, such as food processors
